Millions and millions of people rely on public transportation each and every day to get to WORK. I suggest you discover the joys of train, subway, local car pools and bus travel. Think of the nice people you'll meet on your way to WORK every day. You don't really NEED a driver's license to work although it is nice to have your own "freedom machine". Good luck.

Amtrak is the only option, other than bus. Flying in this case would be cheaper as train travel in the U.S tends to be expensive.

Amtrak is the only one I believe. This link will take you directly to the schedule page. I believe it is an 8 hour trip and goes thru LA and costs $36. http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Amtrak/Page/Schedules_Index_Page&c=Page&cid=1080072922206&ssid=3 If you keep an eye on the soutwest specials you can get a really cheap ticket. We flew from Tucson Arizona to San Diego for $25 plus taxes. Right now they have one way specials for $49.
